All about Barbera wine

  • Barbera is a red wine, medium to heavy body, with a great ruby red color and flavors of berry.
  • Barbera is one of the most food friendly wines.  Low tannins in the wine will not overpower food. The acidity in this wine complements many foods. Any meal with a tomato sauce is a perfect match with Barbera.
  • The Barbera is an Italian grape, grown extensively in the Piedmont region of Italy.
  • Few wineries in California produce Barbera because there is not a large consumer demand for this grape.
  • Most of the wineries producing a Barbera wine are in the Sierra Foothills. There are also a few wineries in the Paso Robles wine region that produce a Barbera.
