Bistro Don Giovanni for lunch in the Napa Valley

Bistro Don Giovanni for lunch

After a tour and tasting at Truchard Vineyards in Carneros on Thursday, we headed down to Bistro Don Giovanni for lunch. The Bistro is located near the town of Napa, just off Highway 29 on Howard Lane. Bistro Don Giovanni has been a fixture on the Napa Valley restaurant scene for the past 20 years, and is a very popular restaurant for locals and tourists. Food critic Michael Bauer of the San Francisco Chronicle always has the restaurant on his “Top 1oo Restaurants of the Year.”  The menu at Bistro Don Giovanni for lunch and dinner is the same.  Pizza is a specialty, with a wood-burning oven delivering some interesting pizzas to the table. Janelle and I spilt a porcini and cheese pizza, with a fried egg placed on the top smack in the middle. Very tasty! We also split an apple and persimmon salad.  Our friends shared a classic Caesar Salad and a Margarhita pizza. The Caesar looked scrumptious and is something we will order on our next visit. We love this restaurant and have dined here often for both lunch and dinner. My only regret is that the lunch menu does not include paninis on the regular menu. You would think being an Italian restaurant there might be a few paninis on the menu, at least for lunch. There is a hamburger, but that’s it if you are interested in a sandwich for lunch. The Bistro is packed most days for lunch and dinner, so reservations are recommended. There is also a terrace and patio area that make for comfortable seating on nice days.
