Wine Country Backroads – Westside Road
There are many wonderful and hidden wine country backroads. Here is one of the most spectacular. It is Westside Road in Sonoma County. It begins near the town of Healdsburg. It spans two wine country AVA’s or appellations, the Dry Creek Valley and the Russian River Valley. Along the way are rolling hills of vineyards, wineries, tasting rooms and sights like the iconic barn above. There are several wineries to visit with wonderful tasting rooms and picnic areas. In the Dry Creek Valley on Westside Road, we like Armida Winery and the Mill Creek Vineyards and Winery. Continuing on Westside Road, we always enjoy a stop at the historic Hop Kiln Winery. Each of these wineries has a delightful area for picnicking. Another very fun thing to do is drive along Westside Road until it meets River Road. Turn right and very soon look for the Korbel Winery. It is a historic building where sparkling wine has been made for well over a hundred years. Korbel has a great tour, along with a beautiful garden and a deli. If you are feeling adventurous, continue on River Road for a few miles to the Russian River town of Guerneville, the famous resort town of the Russian River.
