About Terra Savia and Hopland wineries

Do you really want to get away in the Northern California wine country? Discover the boutique Hopland wineries of Mendocino County.  Most wine folks know Mendocino wineries because of the Anderson Valley. But to the east of the Anderson Valley and over the coastal mountains is another wine country worth discovering, the Hopland wineries. There are some  20 Hopland wineries and most are situated close to the tiny town of Hopland. Hopland is only a few blocks long and remains one of the few towns where Highway 101 runs through the main street of town. No bypass here, just a bit of nostalgia for folks who have been traveling Highway 101 for years to get to Oregon. In the photo above, we are in the tasting room of the Terra Savia winery. It is one of several Hopland wineries that practices sustainable or organic farming. Their wines are made in an eco-friendly manner, quite tasty, and easy on the pocketbook. We like the stainless-steel, no-oak Chardonnay pictured in the photo. We also like the olive oil made at Terra Savia. Terra Savia has one of the most unique tasting rooms anywhere in wine country. Its large warehouse is filled with interesting pieces of art and other cool objects of delight. The winery is located at 14160 Mountain House Rd. in Hopland. The winery is open to visitors 11am to 5 pm, Friday through Sunday. If you are there during the week, call for an appointment.

Nearby the town of Hopland has many tasting rooms to explore, but we prefer heading to a winery to view winemaking in action. Be sure to visit Saracina, Jeriko and Campovida. The unfortunate thing about the town of Hopland is its lack of fine lodging and restaurants. One can visit these wineries during the day and then head back south to either Geyserville or Healdsburg for accommodations and gourmet dining. Geyserville is 20 mintues south, and Healdsburg 10 minutes further south. Saracina, Campovida, and Jaxon Keys have great picnic areas. Pack a lunch and enjoy.
