Sierra Foothills Winter

Sierra Foothills Winter

Our traveling wine country motto: “Any time of the year is the best time to visit the wine country.” This could not be more true than with the Sierra Foothills wine country in the winter. The photo above is so inviting. On a clear and crisp day, the Sierra Foothill wine country shines with beauty. The Sierra Foothills have many small and family-owned wineries. Outside of a few new and chic wineries, most are quaint and small, with cozy tasting rooms that are so welcoming to visitors. The countryside is mostly rolling hills of vines and oak trees. Each winter we take a trip to the Sierra Foothills. We like to stay in  the old gold mining town of Sutter Creek. Within 20 minutes we can be in the Shenandoah Valley of Amador County. On Shenandoah Road we find more than enough wineries to visit in a two-day stay. Most of the wineries open their tasting rooms from Fridays to Sundays only. We also enjoy a drive to Fair Play in El Dorado County. It is another 25 to 30 minutes away from Shenandoah Road.
