Limerick Lane –  Backroad Wineries

Limerick Lane is a small wine country backroad in the Russian River Valley of Sonoma County. We love three wineries on this route. In addition to Limerick Lane, there are two nearby wineries on Old Redwood Highway that are exceptional in fun and uniqueness.

From Healdsburg, take Highway 101 south and exit at Old Redwood Highway. Take a slight right onto Old Redwood Highway. Turn left at Limerick Lane.

Christopher Creek Winery and Limerick Lane Cellars are two popular wineries on Limerick Lane. Viszlay Vineyards is tucked away and hidden from view midway up Limerick Lane.

The best views are at the Christopher Creek Winery. Ask in the tasting room if you can take a hike up the vineyards behind the wine cellar. It is a short hike to the top of the vineyard. At the top of this vineyard is a beautiful view of rolling hills of vines that belong to the St. Francis Winery. These vineyards are at the north end of the Russian River Valley AVA.

Limerick Lane Wines is an upscale winery, most noted for its great Zinfandel. The vineyard views outside the tasting room will surely add to your enjoyment. The tasting room is open by appointment, so call ahead.

The newest winery on Limerick Lane is Viszlay Vineyards. Viszlay Vineyards is tucked among the vines and provides some fantastic views. This an excellent choice for a picnic lunch. Call ahead to reserve a table. The tasting room is open daily from 11 am to 5 pm.

Wineries on Old Redwood Highway

At the foot of Limerick Lane on Old Redwood Highway is Foppiano Vineyards. Visit here for a history of California wine. Foppiano Family has run this winery since its origin in 1896. While visiting Foppiano take a short hike on their Margot Patterson Doss Trail. It takes you through the Foppiano vineyards. We love the wines and wine prices at Foppiano.

Less than one mile away is another winery with an interesting past, Acorn Winery. This is a small winery and famous for a Zinfandel vineyard. That Zinfandel vineyard is over 100 years old. Interspersed are vines of Alicante, Petite Sirah, and others. This is called a Field Blend. All the grapes are harvested together. Acorn Winery is open by appointment. It is a very fun winery to visit.
