South Silverado Wine Route – Quick Getaway

Many folks come to the San Francisco Bay Area for business meetings, conferences and conventions. Often there is some relaxation time to get in a quick wine country getaway. Travel time from the San Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge to the Southern end of the Silverado Trail can be slightly less than one hour in good traffic conditions. The quickest way to the Silverado Trail is through the eastern side of the town of Napa. From the Bay Bridge, we take Highway 80 to the Napa exit five miles after crossing the Carquinez Bridge. On Highway 29, veer to the left and take CA-221 N and CA-121 N to the Silverado Trail. It is a short cut, and the best way to get to the Silverado Trail.  We have seven wineries to choose from on the Silverado Trail. Pick one or two for an ideal visit. If you include a picnic lunch, that will make your trip even more fun. Here is quick description of each winery.

  • Judd’s Hill – First winery, open by appointment but you can stop in and taste
  • Luna – Best Pinot Grigio around
  • Hagafen Cellars – Kosher winery, great white wines
  • Clos du Val – Great Cabernet Sauvignon, picnic spot
  • Stags Leap Cellars – recently revamped visitor center
  • Pine Ridge – Great picnic spot, caves, good wine
  • Baldalchi –  Single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon; call for appointment
