Original Joe’s Westlake

For our Wine Country Photograph of the Day, we chose a photo of an old wine list framed and hanging on a wall at Original Joe’s Westlake in Daly City, CA. Joe’s reopened in February of this year, after being closed for two years for a complete restoration and remodel. The wine list is from the late 1950’s. Can you image paying $2.35 for a 750ml bottle of Louis Martini Cabernet Sauvignon? It is also interesting to see how wines were categorized back in the day. Chablis, Rhine, Chianti, etc. Original Joe’s Westlake is an institution in the Westlake region of Daly City. Folks not only come from the Daly City area but San Francisco, the San Mateo Peninsula, and across the Bay to dine at what most call Westlake Joe’s. Since Joe’s reopened, it has been packed with diners, serving as many as a 1,00o plates per evening. See the San Francisco Chronicle’s food critic, Michael Bauer’s review of Original Joe’s Westlake.
