East Bay Wine Country

Yes, there is wine country in Oakland California. Here are three East Bay wineries that have a full wine making faciltiy and tasting room. The only thing missing are the vineyards. These three wineries have grapes trunked in during harvest time from various California vineyards and crush, age, and bottle the wine at these Oakland facilities.

JC Cellars & Dashe Winery have teamed up to share a wine making facilitiy and tasting room, all in one building. Five minutes away is Lost Canyon, a winery focusing on Pinot Noir and Syrah.

Dashe Cellars
Dahse Cellars and JC Cellars are located at 4th and Fallon, very near Jack London Square. Dashe Cellars is on the right side of the tasting room and JC Cellars on the left. Each winery currently has a $5 tasting fee each that can be applied to the purchase of wine. Dashe specializes in single-vineyard wines, particularly Zinfandel. They also produce one white wine, a very refreshing Riesling from the Potter Valley in Mendocino County. The owners and winemakers are the husband-wife team of Michael and Anne Dashe. Each comes from a different background in winemaking but have blended their talents to produce very excellent and complex wines.

JC Cellars

Jeff Cohn is the owner and winemaker at JC Cellars. Jeff had been the winemaker at Rosenblum for past several years and now has completed the transition to full time winemaker at JC Cellars. His experience and relationship at Rosenblum have enable Jeff to obtain contracts with owners from some of California’s finest vineyards. The winery is currently producing Zinfandel, Syrah, and Petite Syrah. JC Cellars also produces a lovely Marsanne wine, the only white wine in their production line. Although the winery has been in operation only a few years, the JC Cellars wines have gained recognition from the wine judges and the wine press.

Lost Canyon Winery

At JC Cellars and Dashe you can pick up a set of directions that will take you to Lost Canyon Winery via a very short hop on the 880 Freeway. When you get off at the 23 St./Alameda exit be sure to make a quick right turn onto Dennison. The winery is located at 2102 Dennison. Lost Canyon currently specializes on two varietals, Pinot Noir and Syrah. They make single-vineyards wines from several different vineyards most of which come from the Russian River Valley appellation in Sonoma County. Like Dashe and JC Cellars, the wines are handcrafted from single vineyards and made only in small amounts. The Pinots are fabulous.
