Black Sheep Winery
There a number of tasting room on Main Street in Murphys. We always prefer tasting at a winery where we can view vineyards and check out the wine making facilities. But if you want to stay in town, we suggest you stop in at the Black Sheep Winery and Milliarie Winery tasting rooms. The Black Sheep Winery is family a family owned winery making wine since 1984. Like most of the wineries in Murphys, they are considered a boutique winery making less than 3000 case of wine per year. only makes about 3000 case of wine per year. The wines are quite decent and priced very nicely. You wonft be disappointed. Black Sheep tasting room is located at 221 Main St. in Murphys

Milliaire Winery
Milliare Winery is on Main St. at the east end of the town. The small winery is owned and operated by Steve and Liz Millier. The winery is housed in what was once a Flying A gas station. Remember those? We are very impressed by the Milliaire wines. The dry GewuNrztraminer is delicious and at $12 a good value. The Zinfandels are excellent as well as the Syrah. Our favorite wine is the Petit Syrah. It is a delicious full-bodied wine that will go well with our barbecue dinner. Milliaire winery makes small lots of wine from various vineyards located in nearby counties.

Ironstone Vineyards
The winery is about a mile from Main St. in Murphys. Where as most wineries in Murphys are boutique is size, Ironstone is quite the opposite. Ironstone has a very big and fancy tasting room with lots of merchandise for sale, complete with a deli and a decked picnic area. They produce several varietals of wines including a reserve line of wines. Interestly, Steve Millier, the owner and winemaker at Milliaires, is also the winemaker at Ironstone. This a very popular winery attracting many visitors daily. The grounds surrounding the winery are very well manicured and abundant with a variety of colorful flowers. The winery is quite an attraction. To get to Ironstone take South Algiers St and turn right on Six Mile Road to the winery.

Stevenot Winery
It is three-mile drive up Sheep Ranch Road to San Domingo Road. The winery is located in a secluded area. The tasting room is very historic with lots of memorabilia on display. Gourmet deli items are for sale here and the grounds are very beautiful. It is a good choice for a picnic lunch. There is a grape arbor set up with tables so you can picnic in the shade and enjoy the peace and quiet of the winery. The wines are excellent and we especially liked the Tempranillo wine. This wine is unique to Stevenot and is the grape from which many Spanish wines are made. This winery has been around since 1973 and was recently sold to new owners.

Tasting room is open daily from 11 a.m. to 5 pm

Twisted Oak Winery
This is one of those off beat wineries where one can have a very fun experience and taste some fabulous wines. Maybe the word is not out but this winery is producing some mighty fine wines. The winery is named after the twisted oak that sits out in front of their winery. Take a look, and you will see one interesting oak tree. As far as the wines, we enjoyed them all and the names of the wine. They make some interest varietals, including a Verdelho, a Portuguese wine rarely produce in the U.S. The winery has a tasting room on Main Street, but it is much fun to visit the winery located just a few miles away.

Tasting Room is open daily from 10:30 to 5 pm
